2026 Inglis Premier – Sire and Vendor Break Up

Tara Madgwick - Sunday December 7

The 2026 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale is now online and there is a distinctly Yulong flavour to the sale with Victoria’s biggest farm also the biggest vendor and they stand three of the top five most represented sires.

Yulong will present 85 yearlings, which is actually two less than last year and they head the vendors list with the top four exactly the same as last year with Widden, Rosemont and Blue Gum Farm.

Yulong’s own sires account for the majority of their draft with 20 youngsters by Alabama Express, 17 by Grunt and 11 by their exciting new sire Diatonic (Jpn).

A brilliant Group winning sprinter miler, Japanese bred and raced Diatonic is by Lord Kanaloa, who has already achieved success for Yulong as the sire of another of their young stallions in Tagaloa.

On the score of sires, Swettenham Stud’s Toronado (IRE) is on top with 38 entries which is significantly up from last year when he had 21.

The champion son of High Chaparral leads the way over the Yulong duo of Alabama Express and Grunt on 30 and 29 with both of those stallions siring Group I winners this spring in Treasurethe Moment (Memsie Stakes) and Strictly Business (VRC Oaks).

Next on the list are Rosemont Stud’s proven G1 sire Shamus Award and another Yulong contender in Pierata, who with 19 entries is equal with Justify (USA) and Widden Stud’s first season sire Jacquinot.

One stallion that will command interest and undoubtedly draw a few buyers to the sale is Ghaiyyath (IRE), who shuttled to Darley Victoria.

The champion son of Dubawi has been the big mover this spring in the second season sire division and now tops the table by earnings with four stakes-winners, which is more than any of his peers.

His star performer is G1 Victoria Derby winner Observer, while another Listed stakes-winner Different Gravy has shown the talent to suggest Group races will be within his grasp before the end of the season.

If you have become a Ghaiyyath fan, you will find more of them at this yearling sale than any other.
