€2.6 million Half Sovereign Tops Arqana Vente d’Élevage

Media Release - Sunday December 7

The final major sale of the year in Deauville, the ARQANA Vente d’Élevage began this morning with the first part of the catalogue that offered a selection of exceptional mares, fillies and foals. Of the 227 lots that went under the hammer, nearly 77% of them changed hands for an average of €190,126, generating a turnover of €33,082,000.

Top price of €2,6 million for Group winner HALF SOVEREIGN

The auditorium was buzzing when it came to the turn of Prix Miesque (Gr.3) winner HALF SOVEREIGN (lot 195) in the ring. Offered as a Wild Card from Consign Ltd, the gavel finally fell at €2,6 million in favour of Henry Lascelles for the Karl Burke trained filly.

With a current rating of 105, the two year-old daughter of Ten Sovereigns hails from the family of dual Group 1 winner JACK HOBBS, as well as Group scorers POLLENATOR, STELLARIA and GOLDEN POND.

“It’s fantastic! I didn’t expect that,” said Karl Burke. “When my wife Elaine and I bought her, she stood out to us. With a filly such as her, you can look forward to a lot of things. Why not the French Guineas!”

Listed winner LILY HART joins Haras du Cadran

French buyers were very active around the ring today, including Pierre Talvard (Haras du Cadran), who went to €1,050,000 for Listed winner and Group-placed LILY HART (lot 207). Offered from La Motteraye Consignment carrying her first foal by Wootton Bassett, the daughter of Galileo comes from the family of Group 1 winners GREEN TUNE and PAS DE REPONSE.

MARGIE’S MUSIC and EYOTA for Ecurie des Monceaux.

A few moments later, Ecurie des Monceaux Director Henri Bozo went to €1 million for MARGIE’S MUSIC (lot 211), already the dam of Classique hope A LA PROCHAINE, Group winner and Deutsches Derby (Gr.1)-placed MR HOLLYWOOD, as well as Group-placed MAGICAL BEAT. She was offered in foal to Night Of Thunder by Haras de la Cour Blanche. A few minutes earlier, he also signed the docket at €660,000 for the Wild Card EYOTA (lot 210), the dam of KISS MELODY, runner-up in the Prix des Réservoirs (Gr.3) this season.

She was offered in foal to St Mark’s Basilica by Haras des Capucines.

“They’re both mares that have proved their quality as broodmares,” said Henri Bozo. “The first, Eyota, is a young mare whose juvenile has made a strong impression. She has also produced a very nice yearling by Dark Angel. She comes from a family that has given us a lot, notably with Mangoustine. The second mare has already produced very good performers and is in foal to an in-demand stallion that is hard to get to. She has all the class of Hurricane Run and Montjeu in her. We’re very happy.”
