Holy Roman Group Three Winner

Tara Madgwick - Saturday May 26
A two time Listed stakes-winner last year, Irish bred Holy Roman Emperor gelding Duca Valentinois (IRE) went to a new level on Saturday at Doomben when winning the Group BRC III Lord Mayor's Cup for Godolphin.

Holy Roman Emperor is due back at Aquis in Queensland this springPrepared by James Cummings, Duca Valentinois was a last start second in the Listed Scone Cup and was sent out favourite before powering clear to win by a length and a half in a dominant display.

The strength of his win could tempt Cummings into back him up at the Sunshine Coast next Saturday in the Group II PJ O'Shea Stakes (2200m).

"We haven't really tried the horse much beyond the mile and it might be an interesting thought if we considered putting him on the quick back-up," Cummings said.

"He's fully wound up now, he's deep into his preparation and put that solid win on the board."

A consistent type that is never far away, Duca Valentinois has won seven races and placed nine times from 34 starts and takes his earnings beyond $556,000.

Duca Valentinois is from Fruits of Love mare Love Valentine and is one of 72 stakes-winners for Aquis shuttler Holy Roman Emperor, who is back in Queensland again this spring at a fee of $9,900.

Holy Roman Emperor has proven his worth at the yearling sales this year with 10 yearlings averaging $111,000
