Fee Set for Thronum

Media Release - Friday May 25

Outstanding sprinter, THRONUM, has been retired from the track and will stand at Sun Stud in Victoria this spring.

Thronum will stand at a fee of $17,600The lightning quick son of Snitzel has enjoyed a tremendous 2018, opening with a memorable all-the-way victory in the Group Two Australia Stakes on 26 January (beating Brave Smash) and followed up with a fourth – beaten a neck – behind Hartnell in the Group One CF Orr Stakes in February.

Thronum was caught right on the wire by Hellbent when second in the Group One William Reid Stakes - in near track record time - at his penultimate start, however was sadly injured in Saturday's Group One Goodwood Handicap at Morphettville and the decision was made to immediately send him to stud.

"Thronum was really travelling turning for home in the Goodwood, but then I felt him put in a short one and I pulled him up as soon as I could," jockey Tim Clark points out.

Hall of Fame trainer, David Hayes, was disappointed to see the horse leave his Lindsay Park stable.

"He really did take on and beat some of the best," David adds. "He has that magnificent front-running style about him and the ability – and heart –to stick to his guns when challenged.

"I believe he's a great chance at stud: aside from being a genuine Group One performer, he's by a Champion Sire and emerging sire of sires in Snitzel. It's a real stallion's family too with close relations Street Cry (117 stakes winners) and Shamardal (116 stakes winners)."

Thronum burst on to the scene with successive victories as a 2YO before winning his first race at three – the Listed Rosebud Stakes at Royal Randwick.

The lightly raced entire retires as a winner of five races, with a further four placings to his name.

Regular jockey, Mark Zahra, is a huge fan of the flashy bay: "This horse has elite speed … he led all the way in the Australia Stakes, thrashing Group One winner, Brave Smash, in the process."

Sun Stud's Senior Sales & Nominations Manager, Mark Lindsay, was thrilled at the prospect of getting Thronum on board: "He's quality all the way through … type, performance and pedigree. We've already received a flood of enquiries about the horse."

THRONUM will stand for an advertised service fee of $17,600 including GST .
