Juvenile Trial Watch - Warwick Farm

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday May 22
Fresh from juvenile success having won the two year-old race at Rosehill last Saturday with Zoustar colt Ronstar, Gary Portelli has some more ammunition in the locker having produced the two fastest juvenile heat winners at the Warwick Farm trials on Monday morning.

Choisir filly Gotta Minute chased Golden Slipper winner Estijaab home when unplaced in her first barrier trial back in January before heading to the paddock, but has returned a stronger filly this time around.

She found the front quickly for James Mcdonald and was always in cruise control as she powered to the line to win her 807 metre heat by five lengths in 48.34 seconds.

Retained to race by her breeder, Gotta Minute is the third named foal from the General Nediym mare Seeyalater, who comes from the family of Group I VARC Thousand Guineas winner Lady of the Pines.

Lord Zoulander as a yearlingRunning even slightly quicker time was Zoustar gelding Lord Zoulander, a $100,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Gary Portelli from the Southern Cross Breeders draft.

Having his second trial, unraced Lord Zoulander showed pace for Winona Costin to shar the lead and worked to the line nicely with the Godolphin runner Marmaris to score a nose win in 48.22 seconds.

Lord Zoulander is the first foal of winning Strategic mare Runs Deep, a half-sister to stakes-winner Excellent Reward from the family of Group I MRC Blue Diamond Stakes winner Earthquake.
