Third Group One for Superstar Fastnet Filly

Tara Madgwick - Saturday May 5
A full sister to this year's Inglis Easter sale-topper, Fastnet Rock filly Shoals is probably the best bred filly in the country and also the best on the track.

The three year-old scored a resounding win for Tim Clark at Morphettville on Saturday when taking out the $1million SAJC Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) over Secret Agenda, who won this race last year.

ShoalsIt was the third Group I win this season for the Anthony Freedman trained filly, who also captured the Group I VRC Myer Classic (1600m) in the spring and Group I ATC Surround Stakes (1400m) in the autumn.

A homebred for Arrowfield Stud and Jonathan Munz, Shoals has the impressive record of seven wins and two seconds from 10 starts with prizemoney of $2million and Royal Ascot may well be a possibility.

"She was dominant today and it was a very good race. She's gone up a couple of levels and we'll give Royal Ascot a lot of thought," Freedman said.

"She's an outstanding filly to win three Group Is in 10 runs. Not many do it.

"I'll have to talk to the two John's, Messara and Munz, they have a lot to think about. If she is going to Royal Ascot she would fly out at the end of the month, so would not have another start here."

$2.3 million Inglis Easter sale-topper is a full brother to ShoalsShoals was retained to race by her breeders Arrowfield Stud and Jonathan Munz (in whose colours she runs) and is the first foal of The Broken Shore, who was bought by Dean Hawthorne Bloodstock for $1.9 million at the Magic Millions Teeley Assets Dispersal in 2014.

A metropolitan winner by Hussonet (USA), The Broken Shore is a half-sister to Group I winners Redoute's Choice, Manhattan Rain and Platinum Scissors as well as Group III winner Sliding Cube and stakes-winner Echoes of Heaven.

The Broken Shore has been to Fastnet Rock in three seasons running and her current two year-old filly, a full sister to Shoals, is called Tides and is also be trained by Anthony Freedman.

The yearling colt by Fastnet Rock from The Broken Shore duly topped the 2018 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale last month when fetching $2.3 million to the bid of Anthony Freedman.

The Broken Shore has a weanling colt by Medaglia D'Oro (USA) and was covered last spring by Fastnet Rock.
