Hong Kong Double for Brutal

Tara Madgwick - Sunday June 15

With Hong Kong races on Saturday this week and so much going on in Brisbane it was easy to miss the action at Sha Tin with a winning double for young sire Brutal worth noting as it featured a two year-old that has now had two starts for two wins and broke 56 seconds for 1000m!

Trained by Jamie Richards and ridden by Zac Purton, two year-old Brutal gelding The All Out was a winner on debut over 1000m back in April and kept up the good work in his second appearance to win again by half a length.

The All Out clocked a sizzling 55.84s with a strong trailing breeze after starting from barrier two.

“He was good because it’s very hard to win from that side of the track,” Purton said. “He did a really good job to be working the whole way to some extent and then hold them off.”

The All Out was bred and sold by Cambridge Stud fetching $150,000 at K1.

A $150,000 Karaka Book 1 purchase for Jamie Richards / Andrew Williams Bloodstock from the Cambridge Stud draft, The All Out is the second winner from Sistabeel, a winning Savabeel mare from the family of stakes-winners Dance to the Stars, Follow the Star and Wells Street.

Brutal made it a double on the card when the David Eustace trained three year-old Truly Fluke improved on his last start second to score by a  long neck over 1400m at his third start.

“He’s a beautiful horse and we took a punt today to go forward from a wide gate (barrier 13). I just felt if we went back, he’d probably run well without being a chance of winning. He got a beautiful ride and he’s a nice horse for next season,” Eustace said.

“I’d like to think he’ll work his way through the grades a little bit. Obviously, it’s hard to know how far they get, but he’ll stay a mile no problem and probably doesn’t need to go further than that at this stage. That might just do him for the season, but we’ll see how he comes through it.”

Bought for just $25,000 at the Inglis Gold Yearling Sale by Winterfold Racing Stables, Truly Fluke is the third winner from Kascata, a placed Snitzel daughter of Group I winner Clean Sweep/.

Brutal has had just four runners in Hong Kong and three are winners so he looks likely to follow in the footsteps of other Newgate sires that have proven very successful in the region in Deep Field and Capitalist.
