Metropolitan Double for Zoustar

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday March 14
Champion trainer Chris Waller unleashed a winning two year-old double for Australia's leading first season sire Zoustar on Wednesday at Warwick Farm with exciting wins for Lean Mean Machine and Madam Rouge.

Madam Rouge was resuming from a break having finished fifth on debut at Rosehill in early November.

Madam Rouge as a yearlingA stronger filly this time around, she was primed for her return with a recent trial win and scored a stylish victory.

Allowed to go forward from a wide gate by Brenton Avdulla, Madam Rouge led for home and defied all challengers to win the 1000 metre fillies maiden by a length and a quarter.

"It's not ideal for one of our two year-olds to go out and lead off the fence as it can make them vulnerable, so full credit to Brenton and the horse," said Chris Waller.

"Our riders identified her as a nice filly even before Christmas, so it's good to see her putting up her hand now."

A $310,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Widden Stud draft for Waller Racing/ Mulcaster Bloodstock, Madam Rouge runs for a syndicate of stable clients that also includes Raffles Racing who shared in the ownership of Zoustar's earlier winner Lean Mean Machine and also Widden Stud, who co-bred the filly.

Madam Rouge is the first winner for stakes-winning Al Maher mare Cabernet, a daughter of stakes-winner Golden Weekend.

Madam Rouge and Lean Mean Machine are the third and fourth winners for Zoustar, who has 13 entries for the 2018 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.
