Stakes Double For Too Darn Hot with Arabian Summer

Craig Tompson - Saturday February 8

Ninety minutes after producing season stakes winner seven, the red hot Too Darn Hot delivered number eight, when super consistent Arabian Summer took the Group III Peter Le Grand Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield on Saturday.

Arabian Summer winning the Peter Le Grand Stakes

The three-year-old had been a productive earner for her owners, having banked $1.3million thanks to wins in a couple of big money Magic Millions races, and also a third placing at her prior start in the $3million Sunlight slot race, however a stakes win was not on the resume.

That was put right when Harry Coffey parked his mount beautifully midfield and brought her with a well-timed to run to beat Tobeornottobe (Pierata) by a head with Shadhavar (Pride Of Dubai) third.

It completely a red-letter day for Coffey with four winners, including the Group One Orr Stakes.

wise for Too Darn Hot who is dominating the second season sires tables this season and had sired two year-old filly Rivellino to win the $2million Inglis Millennium (RL)  at Rosehill ninety minutes prior to the Peter Le Grand Stakes.

The win now takes Arabian Summer’s record to five wins, a second, and two thirds from nine starts with earnings of $1,392,400.

A $220,000 purchase for McEvoy Mitchell Racing/Belmont Bloodstock Agency (FBAA), from the Coolmore Stud draft in Book 2 of the 2023 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Arabian Summer is one of two winners from three runners for the talented Street Cry (IRE) mare Maraam.

A winner at Gosford and twice a winner at Canterbury, Maraam is a half-sister to Group II ATC Arrowfield 3YO Sprint Stakes winner Derryn (Hinchinbook), who stands at Grangewilliam Stud in New Zealand.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum purchased Maraam for $1,050,000 from the Segenhoe Stud draft at the 2014 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale after Segenhoe had pinhooked her for $280,000 at the 2013 National Weanling Sale.

McEvoy Mitchell Racing/Belmont Bloodstock Agency (FBAA) paid $475,000 for Maraam’s Wootton Bassett (GB) filly at the 2024 Gold Coast Yearling Sale, which has been named Filigree Shadow but has yet to be seen in public.

She foaled a Wootton Bassett colt last year and was served by Shinzo.

Rivellino and Arabian Summer are the 20th and 21st lifetime stakes-winners for Too Darn Hot.
