Another Rich Prize for Too Darn Hot Filly Arabian Summer

Mark Smith - Saturday May 25

Honest filly Arabian Summer all but ensured her sire Too Darn Hot (GB) Champion First Season Sire honours with a hard-fought win in Saturday’s $1,000,000 Magic Millions National 2yo Classic (1050m) at Doomben.

Harry Coffey found the right lane in the straight, coming widest of all to defeat the stubborn Capitalist colt King Of Roseau by a half-neck with the I Am Invincible colt Embassy two lengths back in third.

Fast closing in on $1 million in earnings without a stakes win, the Tony and Calvin McEvoy-trained filly advances her record to three wins and two thirds from seven starts with earnings of $961,600.

“It is a fantastic result for the ownership and us,” Calvin McEvoy said.

uo;A big thank you to Toby Edmonds and his team. She’s been housed with him. He’s been looking after her so well and keeping us updated. Massive credit to Toby and his team.

“She spelled up here with Julian Blaxland and Casey Fogden. They did the pre-training with her. She was about to be booked to come back to Victoria, and our racing manager alerted us about the race. We would have been mad to bring her back.

“She’s going to get a rude shock when she gets back to the Ballarat winter.

“We’ll space her runs and maybe a Lightning Stakes in Adelaide towards the end of the season.”

A $220,000 purchase for McEvoy Mitchell Racing/Belmont Bloodstock Agency (FBAA), from the Coolmore Stud draft in Book 2 of the 2023 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Arabian Summer is the first winner from three runners for the talented Street Cry (IRE) mare Maraam.

A winner at Gosford and twice a winner at Canterbury Maraam is a half-sister to Group II ATC Arrowfield 3YO Sprint Stakes winner Derryn (Hinchinbook), who was third in the Group 1 Doomben 10000 and now stands at Grangewilliam Stud in New Zealand.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum purchased Maraam for $1,050,000 from the Segenhoe Stud draft at the 2014 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale after Segenhoe had pinhooked her for $280,000 at the 2013 National Weanling Sale.

Unsurprisingly, McEvoy Mitchell Racing/Belmont Bloodstock Agency (FBAA) signed the ticket for Maraam’s Wootton Bassett (GB) filly consigned by Coolmore Stud to the 2024 Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

Sadly, Maraaam’s foal was born deceased last spring, and she was bred back to Wootton Bassett (GB).

Darley Stud’s triple Group 1 winner, Too Darn Hot (GB), leads the way for Champion First Season Sire on earnings and individual winner.

The son of Dubawi stands for $110,000 in the forthcoming season.
