The Listed SAJC Matrice Stakes at Morp0hettville on Monday produced a stakes quinella for Widden sires with Nicconi mare It's Been a Battle prevailing by a narrow margin over Star Witness gelding Stellar Collision.

Trained by Shane Oxlade and ridden by Justin Potter, It's Been a Battle scored a determined win over the well fancied and seasoned stakes-winner Stellar Collision in the 1200 metre sprint.

NicconiA modest $16,000 Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale purchase from the Glenlee draft for her trainer, It's Been a Battle has an impressive strike rate having won five of nine starts earning nearly $140,000 in prizemoney.

She is the best of two winners from unraced Won My Heart, a daughter of Dehere (USA) that died in 2014 with It's Been a Battle her final foal.

It's Been a Battle is the 15th stakes-winner for Widden Stud's perennial favourite Nicconi, who has five entries for the Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale that starts on Tuesday.
