Stakes Goals Ahead for Supido Filly

Tara Madgwick - Saturday January 18

Astute trainer David Payne is no stranger to G1 success and and has high hopes for  Supido filly Shohisha, who looked a future stakes-winner in the making when putting away a handy field of older gallopers at Rosehill on Saturday.

Ridden by Kerrin McEvoy, Shohisha was having her second run back from a spell and improved on her first up second to Dance to the Boom in the Listed Gosford Guineas.

She was sent out favourite and finished off with a well timed run to win the 1200m sprint by nearly two lengths running away and has now won two of four starts earning over $143,000 in prizemoney.

“She is an above average filly and has showed me that from day one and she’s got a bright future,” said David Payne, who is prepared to be patient with Shohisha going forward.

“The track beat her at Gosford, if it was a big track she wins. She might have one more run in a Group race and then I’ll tip her out again as she still needs to furnish.”

Shohisha was retained to race by her breeder Geoff Evers in partnership and is the first winner for Group III ATC Epona Stakes winner Consommateur (NZ), who comes from the family of Group I winners Magic of Sydney and Daney Boy.

Consommateur has a yearling filly by Widden Stud's Supido and after missing to him in 2023 was covered by him again last spring.
