Nicconi, Not Such a Quiet Achiever

Tara Madgwick - Sunday January 14
Widden Stud's quiet achiever Nicconi has shown his worth in two ways over the weekend siring smart mare Caipirinha to win the Listed WATC Miss Andretti Stakes at Ascot and finishing the 2018 Magic Millions Book One as the most profitable sire by multiple of service fee.

The Simon Miller trained Caipirinha led throughout and won the 1100 metre sprint by half a length as favourite, taking her overall record to five wins and eight placings from 19 starts with prizemoney topping $424,000.

$200,000 Nicconi filly from Wurood sold by Aquis FarmA $47,500 Magic Millions purchase from the Riversdale draft for the McRostie's, Caipirinha runs in the colours of Barry and Jan McRostie who have enjoyed much success with multiple Group II winner Miss Rose De Lago.

She is the first foal of Prostar, a half-sister by Starcraft to Group III winner Collate.

Caipirinha is one of 14 stakes-winners sired by Nicconi, who had three yearlings offered in Book One at Magic Millions and all were sold at an average $183,333.

His two best results were the colt from Rhythm Beat that made $200,000 for Rushton Park when secured by Cumani Racing/ Boomer Bloodstock and the filly from Wurood that also made $200,000 for Aquis Farm when bought by DGR Thoroughbreds / Chris Anderson Racing.

Nicconi returned 16.7 times his 2015 service fee of $11,000!

NicconiNicconi has entries for upcoming sales with 13 for Inglis Classic and four for Inglis Premier.

Breeders and yearling buyers have certainly warmed to the quiet consistency of Nicconi to the extent he was the most popular sire in 2016 covering 227 mares at a fee of $11,000 and last year he covered 198 mares at a fee of $16,500.

Expect to see a lot more Nicconi yearlings going forward and in the future a lot more of his winners!
