Sire on Fire – Lope de Vega

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday July 3

Ballylinch Stud’s Lope de Vega is very much a sire on fire this year posting his 17th stakes-winner since January 1 when Moyglare Stud’s new acquisition La Isla Mujeres won the Listed Roscommon Lenebane Stakes (1m4f).

With two wins from her first six starts, but no Black Type, La Isla Mujeres was offered at the Tattersalls December Mares Sale at the end of last year and was purchased for 330,000 guineas by Jason Kelly / Paddy Twomey for Moyglare Stud.

She broke through at her second run for the new connections opening up to win by three and a half lengths earning a valuable Black Type win.

La I

sla Mujeres is a half-sister to stakes-winner Andromede from Group III winner Honor Bound, a half-sister by Authorized to dual Group I winner Treasure Beach.

She becomes the 132nd stakes-winner for Lope de Vega and is his 17th this year with three of those being Group I winners Look de Vega, Rouhiya and Program Trading. He stands at Ballylinch stud at a fee of €125,000 a far cry from the early years when he shuttled to Patinack Farm for four seasons and was priced at $27,500 for the first two years and $22,000 the second two!

Lope de Vega has sired 17 SW's this year.

Lope de Vega is one ahead of Dubawi for stakes-winners this year with the Darley champion sire having produced 16 including four Group I winners.
