Top Priced Blue Point Colt Bosustow Off the Mark

Mark Smith - Wednesday June 5

On Wednesday, the $900,000 Blue Point (IRE) colt Bosustow scored an overdue win in the Cascade Maiden Plate (1350m) at Doomben.

Ridden by Ryan Maloney for Annabel Neasham, Bosustow slammed his elders by upwards of three lengths.

Third in the Group II VRC Sires Produce Stakes at Flemington in March,  Bosustow resumed from a ten-week break in the Group II Spirit Of Boom Classic at Doomben on May 18, where he was caught in the worst going to be a well-beaten tenth.

No such problem on Wednesday as Bosustow rode the early speed before bounding clear to defeat the 4-year-old Merchant Navy gelding Binghamton, with the 3-year-old Spieth gelding Clubhouse back in third.

Rosemont Alliance/Suman Hedge Bloodstock (FBAA)/Annabel Neasham Racing shelled out $900,000 for the striking son of Blue Point (IRE) consigned by Segenhoe Stud to the 2023 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

Bred by Amelia Park Racing and Breeding, Bosustow is a half-brother to the Group 1 WATC Northerly Stakes winner and $3,411,300 earner Amelia's Jewel (Siyouni).

He is the second winner from as many to race for Canford Cliffs mare Bumbasina (IRE), who was a 75,000 guineas purchase for Louis Le Metayer's Astute Bloodstock at the 2019 Tattersalls July Sale.

A half-sister to Group II winner Epona Plays (Australia) and Group III winner Dolce Strega (Zoffany), Bumbasina (IRE) was sent back to France in 2022 after missing in 2021 for another date with Siyouni. She has a yearling brother to Amelia's Jewel.

The most expensive yearling by his sire, Bosustow is the fourth winner in Australia from the first crop of Darley Stud’s Blue Point (IRE).
