Gold Coast Guineas By Six For Bosustow

Dane Squance - Saturday May 10

Just days after his Group 1-winning half-sister Amelia’s Jewel (Siyouni) sold for $3.8m to Tom Magnier at the Inglis Chairman’s Sale, the Annabel and Rob Archibald’s Bosustow (Blue Point) added the Group 3 Gold Coast Guineas (1200m) to his improving record.

When last racing at the Gold Coast track back in January, Bosustow came home at a rate of knots to win the RL $3m Magic Millions 3YO Guineas before heading to New Zealand where he finished second in the Group 1 BCD Group Sprint (1400m).

Having his first start since his trip across the Tasman, Bosustow jumped away well from the gates and under Josh Parr went forward to sit in a mid-field position.

With some strong pace upfront, Parr bided his time before the field turned for home where he forced his way through a gap to make his run.

Appearing to appreciate the wet track conditions, the 3yo colt charged away from his rivals to score in dominant fashion by six lengths, with Brett Cavanough’s Merchant Gold (Merchant Navy) in second and the winner’s stablemate Tuned (Zoustar) in third.

“I messaged Mitho [Anthony Mithen] and Macca [Ryan McEvoy] at 6.30am this morning to say that I wasn’t sure about a Heavy 8 track," Archibald said.

"He didn’t handle a Soft 7 track 12 months ago in the Champagne Stakes, so I was a little bit worried but to the boys’ credit they said let’s have a crack.

"It was an amazing win and I’m sure Peter Busustow was carrying him the whole way there because it was a dominant win."

Bosustow a $900,000 Magic Millions yearling

Purchased by Rosemont Alliance/Suman Hedge Bloodstock (FBAA)/Annabel Neasham Racing for $900,000 from the Segenhoe Stud draft at 2023 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, the Amelia Park Racing and Breeding bred colt is out of the Canford Cliffs mare Bumbasina (IRE), who was herself a 75,000 guineas purchase for Louis Le Metayer's Astute Bloodstock at the 2019 Tattersalls July Sale.

Bumbasina foaled a full-sister to Amelia’s Jewel last season and is currently in foal to Widden Stud’s Zoustar.

The best southern hemisphere performed runner by Darley’s Blue Point (IRE) (Shamardal) who did not shuttle back to Australia this year, Bosustow will be out to make a play for further carnival riches with the Group 3 Fred Best Classic and the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap his carnival aims.

“He’s twice Group 1 placed, so hopefully we can go one better," she said.

"We’re here for a three pronged attack, it’s onto the Fred Best next and then the Stradbroke is his grand final.”
