Shamus Award's Roll On High Earns a Ticket to the Stradbroke Hcp

Mark Smith - Saturday June 1

Back to the form that saw her defeat Joliestar and Kimochi in the Listed Desirable Stakes at Flemington last spring, Roll On High earned a golden ticket to the Stradbroke Hcp when she powered to the line to capture Saturday’s Group III Mullins Lawyers Fred Best Classic (1400m) at Eagle Farm.

Ridden by Vlad Duric for Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman, the 3-year-old daughter of Shamus Award came with a barnstorming finish from the tail of the field to defeat the Grunt gelding Rhythm Of Love by a half-length with the all Too Hard filly Stefi Magnetica back in third.

Carrying the colours of Slade Bloodstock, Roll On High advances her record to three wins and two seconds from nine starts with earnings of $359,625.

Katherine Coleman said the Shamus Award filly was overdue for a change of luck.

“She’s a filly we’ve always had a big opinion of, and this preparation, things just haven’t gone to plan at all,” Coleman said.

“She was super first-up and had absolutely no luck in her runs at all.

“We’ve maintained the faith in her, and she has repaid that today. It is fantastic.

“She’s a little demon. She bit the poor strapper when we were saddling up and she’s very sassy, but when they’re a tough filly like that and they show it, you don’t mind.

“If she pulls up well I’d say we’ll definitely look to head that way (the Stradbroke).

“Vlad has been a part of Pete’s team back in the day, and now we’ve got an association with his daughter, who is just starting her apprenticeship at Pakenham. Having Vlad on board today has made it that bit more special.”

Roll On High is the first foal for the unraced High Chaparral (IRE) mare All Highs On Me, a three-quarter sister to the Group 1 Victoria Derby and Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes winner Monaco Consul.

Erinvale Thoroughbreds sold an Alabama Express filly out of All Highs On Me for $8,500 at the 2023 Inglis Great Southern Sale.

From the family of dual Group 1 winner Military Plume, All Highs On Me has a weanling filly by Tagaloa.

Rosemont Farm’s Shamus Award stands for $38,500 in 2024.
