Overshare Filly wins $200,000 Inglis 2YO Scone Challenge

Tara Madgwick - Friday May 17

The $200,000 Inglis Scone 2YO Challenge (1100m) on Friday attracted a big field of 16 runners with victory going to flying Overshare filly Overfull.

Trained at the Gold Coast by Peter Robl, Overfull won on debut at the Sunshine Coast in February before finishing second and fourth at her next two runs before coming down to Scone.

Ridden by Jag Guthmann-Chester, she led all the way and held off all challengers to win by the best part of a length over the Bjorn Baker trained Magic Moments in the Darby Racing colours.

“It really was this Inglis Challenge that was front and centre in our minds when we bought her at Oaklands, it’s great prizemoney at $200,000 and we bought her for just $14,000 so it made absolute sense,’’ a delighted Robl said post-race.

“The Inglis Race Series is so good because you can be running for the $2m and $1m in the Millennium and Sprint, sure, but a race like this where only certain horses are eligible, it gives everyone a chance to get their hands on the great prizemoney.

“This is a nice filly, we’ve always liked her and she’s been so honest in her three runs before today and we thought this was a nice race for her and she did it well.’’

A modest $14,000 Inglis Gold Yearling Sale purchase from Riverina Downs for Upper Bloodstock / Robl Racing, Overfull has banked $157,000 from her first four starts!

Overfull is the second winner from Longchamp Belle, a metro winning Charge Forward mare from the family of Group I winners Excellerator and Artistic.

“It’s amazing, we’ve still got the mare and I’m just working out now who we send her too because I never send a mare to the same stallion twice,’’ said her breeder Mario Cesnik.

“She was always a beautiful filly, we foaled her down and she just always gave us that good feeling.

"Hopefully now she can go on and win some black type and really go on with it.’’

She is another smart winner for I Am Invincible stallion Overshare, who sired his first Group I winner this year in brilliant mare Lady Laguna. He stands at Widden Victoria at a fee of $5,500.
