Stratum Stakes-Winner for Peters

Tara Madgwick - Monday January 1
Well known and hugely successful WA based breeders Bob and Sandra Peters enjoyed stakes success on both sides of the Tasman on New Year's Day having bred and sold NZ Group II winner Demonetization and bred and retained Stratum six year-old Battle Hero, winner of the Listed WATC Summer Scorcher Stakes at Ascot.

A multiple stakes-winner previously, Battle Hero is now with Chris Gangemi and was having his first run back from a spell in the 1000 metre sprint.

He took full advantage of gate one to lead all the way and win by a long head over race favourite Caipirinha, a four year-old mare by Nicconi, to give Widden sires a stakes quinella.

StratumBattle Hero has the overall record to eight wins and nine placings from 28 starts with prizemoney soaring past $616,000.

Bred and retained to race by Bob and Sandra Peters, Battle Hero is the first foal of winning O'Reilly mare Fromm (NZ), who comes from the family of Group winners No Excuse Maggie, Tootsie and former smart juvenile Hussousa.

Fromm has a yearling filly by Dissident and produced a colt by Pierro in 2017.

Stratum has good representation at upcoming sales with 11 for Magic Millions, 10 for Inglis Classic and seven for Inglis Premier.
