Street Boss Filly Toque Takes Aim at Woodlands Stud Stakes

Mark Smith - Wednesday May 1

The Listed Woodlands Stud Stakes at Scone and a possible trip to Brisbane is on the cards for Toque after the 2-year-old Street Boss (USA) filly opened her winning account in the Robrick Lodge Mdn Hcp (1100m) at Canterbury on Wednesday.

Ridden by Tim Clark for Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, Toque led at every call to defeat The Autumn Son debutant Mr Artemisia by three lengths with the well-supported Justify (USA) first starter Justice Warrior back in third.

Toque was making her second start after finishing third behind the ill-fated Magic Millions 2yo Classic runner-up Highness (Snitzel) and Spywire in the Magic Millions Wyong 2yo Classic (LR) in December.

“She came through a hot form race. She is a big raw filly with so much scope, so for her to do it early in her career is a positive sign and has returned a more seasoned filly,” Adrian Bott said.

“I think we can add some valuable black-type with her. A great filly for the ‘Valerie’ group selected by Bruce Slade and the team, so delighted for them for showing support with these lovely fillies; it’s an honour to train them.

“A race like the Listed Woodlands Stakes at Scone would be a lovely race for her. The big track would suit her. If not there, we could look to Queensland.”

Toque a $200,000 Magic Millions yearling

Bred and offered for sale by A List Stud to the 2023 Magic Million Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Toque was a $200,00 purchase for Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott Racing/Kestrel Thoroughbreds.

It’s a timely win as Toque’s dam Gorgons (Exceed And Excel) has been catalogued in the A List Unreserved Reduction Sale at the National Broodmare Sale. (lot 771)

Purchased off Godolphin for $40,000 at the 2020 National Broodmare Sale, the winning daughter of Exceed And Excel is out of the stakes-winning Lonhro mare Euryale, a half-sister to the stakes-placed dam of Profiteer.

Toque is the third 2-year-old winner of the season for Darley Stud’s Street Boss (USA).
