Too Darn Hot's Broadsiding Cruises in Fernhill - Champagne Stakes Next

Mark Smith - Saturday April 13

Godolphin won the Listed Jericho Capital Fernhill Mile (1600m) at Randwick last year with a future Group 1 winner, Tom Kitten and looks to have another lively prospect in the Too Darn Hot (GB) colt Broadsiding.

Ridden by James McDonald for James Cummings, Broadsiding was well back early and was in a firm pocket on straightening. Once eased out to find clear air, the son of Too Darn Hot (GB) lengthened like a good horse to win, running away by two and a quarter lengths from the Castelvecchio colt El Castello with a half-length back to the Justify (USA) colt Just Party in third.

Making his fourth start, Broadsiding was coming off a third to Linebacker and Anode in the Group III ATC TL Baillieu Hcp at Rosehill.

"He is a very interesting colt by Too Darn Hot and is his first stakes-winner in Australia," James Cummings said.

&quo

t;He did it with a bit of conviction, which was good to see.

"I remember a few years ago standing on Warren Hill seeing too Darn Hot in training with John Gosden. It's great to have that horse on the Darley roster. He has made a promising start with his first crop.

"This horse ate up the mile, which was no surprise to us, and I think he has everything you need to see to back up in the Champagne Stakes next week."

The Godolphin homebred comes from a stakes-laden family dating back to the 1982 AJC Doncaster Handicap, All Aged Stakes, and ARC Railway Handicap winner (My) Gold Hope (John's Hope).

Sadly, this is where this branch of the family ends, as Broadsiding's dam Speedway had only two colt foals before dying in 2022.

A talented daughter of Street Cry (IRE), Speedway made 11 starts for three Godolphin trainers, John O'Shea, Darren Beadman and James Cummings. She won at Wyong and Newcastle and placed a further three times.

Her half-sister Flit (Lonhro) won the Group 1 MRC One Thousand Guineas, Group II ATC Light Fingers Stake, and Group III VRC Thoroughbred Breeders' Stakes, and her dam Glissade (Redoute's Choice) is a stakes-placed daughter of the Group III AJC Breeders' Classic winner Steflara (Zabeel).

Broadsiding is the seventh winner and the first stakes-winner in Australia for Darley Stud's outstanding young stallion Too Darn Hot (GB), who has racked up stakes placings with Too Darn Lizzie, Silmarillion and Arabian Summer.

A triple Group 1 winning son of Dubawi, Too Darn Hot has six stakes-winners worldwide.
