Positive Action Continues on Day Two at NZB Ready to Run

Media Release - Thursday November 23
Fresh off the record setting pace recorded on day one of the annual NZB Ready To Run sale, the action continued to come thick and fast on day two at Karaka.

Wednesday's results produced the highest ever average recorded at a two-year-old sale in Australasia of $108,210, breaking the record set at the end of the 2016 edition of the Sale.

Day two kicked off at a similar pace with the early bidding dominated by an international buying bench that saw Hong Kong and Australian interests to the fore.

Lot 222, a flashy I Am Invincible colt started the morning with a bang when he fell to the bid of representatives of Australian based syndicate ABC Bloodstock for $370,000.

The colt breezed up in a speedy 10.84 seconds and was offered through the Ohaupo based Riversley Park operation who enjoyed a successful first day with six lots sold for $1.04m.

Barely five minutes later another Riversley Park offering was again in the thick of things when Lot 225, a colt by Lope de Vega was knocked down to Orbis Bloodstock and Anthony Freedman for $300,000.

Yulong Investments was another name to figure prominently on day one with a total of nine lots bought at an average price of just over $49,000. They upped the ante significantly early on day two when they successfully offered $350,000 for Lot 228, an O'Reilly colt from top South Island mare Metropolitan.

Lot 276The half-brother to quality South Island filly Residential had breezed up in 10.78s seconds and was offered by Ohukia Lodge, who also featured prominently on day one when they received $300,000 for a Tavistock colt.

The Tavistock colt is headed back to Australia to the stable of ex-pat kiwi's Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young where it will be joined by Lot 276, a Snitzel colt that went to their $300,000 bid after a prolonged battle in the auction ring.

"He is a very scopey colt and appeals as a real Guineas type of horse," said Young shortly after signing for the purchase.

"We really liked his breeze up and he appears to have an excellent attitude when we saw him here at the sale.

"We thought he was good value at that price and we already have half of him sold so I don't think it will take long to get him fully syndicated." - NZ Racing Desk
