New Invincible Stakes-Winner at Sandown

Tara Madgwick - Saturday November 18
China based Yu Long Investments have been prominent buyers of Australian bloodstock in recent years and featured with a stylish stakes-winner at Sandown on Saturday co-owned by Arthur and Charlotte Inglis.

Prepared by Kris Lees, three year-old I Am Invincible filly Yulong Xingsheng was a debut winner at Canterbury back in January and had been consistent in four runs this spring albeit without winning.

A close second in Listed company at Randwick last month had connections heading to Melbourne and she ran a good fourth in the Listed VRC Lexus Hybrid Stakes on Cup Day after overracing and being blocked for a run.

With that run under her belt, Yulong Xingsheng was fit and seasoned for the Listed MRC Twilight Glow Stakes over 1400 metres at Sandown and gave Kerrin McEvoy a trouble free ride to win.

I Am InvincibleShe settled back off the pace three deep and surged to the line to win by three-quarters of a length taking her overall record to two wins and a second from six starts with prizemoney in excess of $130,000.

"She should have been in the money at Flemington," said McEvoy.

"Kris though the soft ground today might suit her and she loved it. She's a nice little filly and is only getting better."

As a $55,000 Inglis Classic purchase for Yu Long from the Wattle Grove Stud draft, Yulong Xingsheng was a successful pinhook for Wattle Grove having been snapped up at the Magic Millions Weanling Sale for just $37,500 from the draft of Mane Lodge.

The 24th stakes-winner for Yarraman Park's flagship sire I Am Invincible, Yulong Xingsheng is the first winner for Keltrice mare Carlie Rose, a grand-daughter of Irish stakes-winner Carlingford Rose.

NZB Filly of the Year Series Springs to Life with Gold Trail Stakes
One of the traditional signs that spring racing has arrived in New Zealand is the running of the first leg of the NZB Filly of the Year Series, the Group Three Gold Trail Stakes (1200m). The $150,000 race looks a little different this year in a temporary new home, but it will still give us that same first look at the latest crop of fillies vying for the coveted title.
