Setsuna Sizzles on Cup Day

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday November 7
Brilliant Choisir filly Setsuna won the $250,000 MVRC Inglis Banner on Cox Plate Day and showed her class again at Flemington on Cup Day when leading throughout to win the Group III VRC Ottawa Stakes with authority.

Prepared by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, Setsuna started the spring with a second in the Listed ATC Gimcrack Stakes at Randwick before travelling to Melbourne, so she's been a busy girl!

She's obviously thriving on racing, jumping straight to the front for Steve Baster in this 1000 metre dash to find the rail.

Setsuna - images Grant CourtneyFrom that point she controlled the race from the front and kicked away to win by more than a length with blue-blooded Exceed and Excel filly Roobeena (find our more about her here) hitting the line hard for second ahead of Foxwedge filly Artistocratic Miss.

"She was brilliant today, just very professional," said Adrian Bott.

"She showed good speed and gave nothing else a chance.

"She's proven herself now so she can go to the paddock for a good spell and then get ready for the Golden Slipper."

A $55,000 Inglis Classic purchase for Darby Bloodstock from the Manx Park draft, Setsuna has won two of three starts and already banked nearly $260,000 for her big team of happy owners.

Setsuna is a half-sister to stakes-winner Miss Solis and is the fifth winner from metropolitan winning juvenile Longoria, who comes from the family of Melbourne Cup winner Jezabeel.

The Inglis Classic has been a happy hunting ground for Darby Bloodstock in recent years with superstar fillies She Will Reign and Yankee Rose also purchased from the same sale.

Longoria has a yearling colt by So You Think, but no foal this spring having missed last year.
