PIVOINE, sold as part of the dispersal of Ballymacoll Stud, topped proceedings on the second day of the Tattersalls Autumn Horses in Training Sale at 340,000 guineas as trade continued in robust fashion. A total of 231 lots were sold for 7,668,300 guineas at an average of 33,196 guineas and a median of 18,000 guineas
The Sir Michael Stoute-trained PIVOINE was the star attraction on the second day of the Tattersalls Autumn Horses in Training Sale when knocked down to SackvilleDonald's Alastair Donald for 340,000 guineas. Sold as part of the Ballymacoll Stud dispersal, the three-year-old son of REDOUTE'S CHOICE was rated 102+ by Timeform and caught the attention of Southern Hemisphere-based agent Guy Mulcaster, but it was Donald who triumphed.
"He will remain in the UK, but could be the sort to have an international campaign," said Donald. "He is a lovely horse, with a good rating and his performances to date look good."
The other horse to top 300,000 guineas on the second day was the Roger Charlton-trained EYNHALLOW who was knocked down to Anthony Stroud for exactly that amount. The son of NATHANIEL, who has looked progressive this year, was offered by Beckhampton House Stables on behalf of the Exors Of The Late RJ McCreery & Partners with a Timeform rating of 105.
"He is for the Carnival," said Stroud, "but he is lovely horse to have and will have a long term future. He was highly progressive this summer and very well trained.
"He was bred by the late Bob McCreery and has a lovely profile."
Stroud Coleman's Anthony Stroud also struck earlier in the day when going to 220,000 guineas to secure the LONHRO three-year-old JUPITER LIGHT. Bred and owned by George Strawbridge, the son of the Group 3 Nell Gwyn Stakes winner FANTASIA was consigned from John Gosden's Clarehaven Stables with a Timeform rating of 105 and is another destined for the Dubai International Racing Carnival.
"He is to go to Dubai and was recommended by the trainer," said Stroud. "He vetted well and has the profile for Dubai and the right rating."
The California-based Tim Cohen has been very active this week, signing for five lots under the Red Baron's Barn & Rancho Temescal banner. Working alongside trainer Edward Freeman and local agent Alastair Donald, Cohen secured the three-year-old ELDRITCH for 200,000 guineas. The son of DARK ANGEL was another owned and trained by George Strawbridge and John Gosden and was offered with a Timeform rating of 100.
"He should suit California, we were looking for a three-year-old allowance horse," said Cohen.
"We like to buy them fit from racing as we give them a run quite quickly once they ship to the US, then give them a break through the winter."
Cohen has an exciting weekend ahead - Red Baron's Barn's ITSINTHEPOST runs in the Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Turf at Del Mar on Saturday.
"I sat up and watched the draw last night - we got seven, which I am pleased with," added Cohen. "I will be getting back to the US in time to go racing."
