RIBCHESTER has created a solid impression in Australia to date with two small crops of racing age progeny, headlined by last Saturday’s Listed Denise’s Joy Stakes winning three-year-old filly RED CARD and two-year-old colt KRAKARIB, winner of the Gr.3 Maribyrnong Plate on Melbourne Cup Day.

In addition RIBCHESTER has been represented by black-type performing three-year-old fillies Plymstock and Portray.

RIBCHESTER’S first crop of three-year-olds have just over a 60% winners/runners strike rate and with an 11% stakes horses to runners ratio, the future looks exciting for the son of IFFRAAJ.

RIBCHESTER has been supported well by New Zealand broodmare owners since his arrival at Haunui Farm and he is leaving a type that has seen yearlings from each crop reach six figures in the auction ring.

His first crop of New Zealand-conceived foals were well received at Karaka in 2023, selling to a top price of $170,000 with the likes of Proven Thoroughbreds, Joe Pride, John Foote, Tony Gollan, Tartan Meadow, John Chalmers, Paul Preusker, Allan Sharrock, Dean Limmer and David Bourne among the yearling purchasers.

RIBCHESTER had big shoes to fill in taking IFFRAAJS place here at Haunui Farm but we couldn’t be happier to have him stand with us in 2023,” Managing Director Mark Chitty said. “The performance of his Australian-born progeny to date is very encouraging and his first crop of New Zealand-conceived yearlings were well received at Karaka 2023.

“The next 12 months will be an exciting time for RIBCHESTER here in the Southern Hemisphere.”

RIBCHESTERS service fee for the 2023 breeding season will be $12,000 + GST.

RIBCHESTER will arrive at Haunui Farm in early August, with the decision made to not shuttle Belardo this season.
