South African Group Three Winner for Artie

Tara Madgwick - Sunday October 8
Australian bred four year-old Our Mate Art scored a career best win at Durbanviklle in South Africa on Saturday when taking out the Group III World Sports Betting Matchem Stakes.

Trained by Candice Bass-Robinson, Our Mate Art defeated another Aussie bred galloper in Table Bay (Redoute's Choice x Gabriella (GB) to win the 1400 metre sprint by half a length.

Artie SchillerGroup placed four times previously, Our Mate Art has won three of 12 starts placing a further five times.

Our Mate Art was a $135,000 Inglis Premier purchase for M Shirtliff from the Ernivale Thoroughbreds draft and is the first winner for Laureldean Dream (USA), a half-sister by Stravinsky to Group I winner and sire Ad Valorem (USA).

He was the most expensive yearling by his sire sold in 2015 and was bred by Peter Anastasiou, who also bred the second place-getter in last week’s Arc de Triomphe, Cloth of Stars.

Laureldean Dream was covered again by Artie Schiller last spring and produced a colt foal last week.

Our Mate Art is the 39th stakes-winner for Aquis Farm's Artie Schiller, who stands this spring at their Murrurundi base at a fee of $33,000.
