Promise Of Success - 27,000 Guineas Well Spent

Mark Smith - Saturday October 22

While there was no black-type, connections of Promise Of Success (GB) can console themselves with the $1,000,000 winner's cheque for The Invitation (1400m) at Randwick on Saturday.

Ridden by Kerrin McEvoy for John O'Shea, the 7yo daughter of Dansili closed late to defeat Electric Girl (Declaration Of War) by a long head with Nimalee (So You Think) three-quarters of a length back in third.

It was just the second start of the spring for Promise Of Success (GB), who enjoyed a productive autumn winning the Group II Emancipation Stakes and placing in the Group II Guy Walter Proven Thoroughbreds Stakes, Group III Triscay Stakes and was fourth in the Group 1 Coolmore Classic.

"We were so glad to get a quality rider like Kerrin," O'Shea said.

"Even though she ran third last the other day, he was keen to stick with her. He's backed his judgment, and it paid off.

"A lot of it is due to Alex, my foreman, who works tirelessly.

"It's really exciting to win a nice race like this. We've been bullish on the mare and she has come here today and raced accordingly. It's a tremendous group of people so I'm just so happy for them."

Kerrin McEvoy said a return to a better track was the key to success.

"She’s a big strong, quality mare. The last run didn’t really go to plan, it was a quickly run race in heavy ground and we got back and she actually dipped quite badly a couple of times,” McEvoy said.

“I said to John ‘just put a complete line through that’.

“She won a couple of nice races over seven furlongs last time in and gave me a good feel in doing it so I was confident to just switch her off early.

“I switched her off as best I could, she travelled quite keen a couple of times but at the top of the lane she was full of running and well played to John and the team.

Purchased for just 27,000gns by David Redvers Bloodstock / Rosemount Stud at the 2019 Tattersalls December Mare Sale after failing to win in four starts, Promise Of Success (GB) has been a revelation in her adopted homeland.

The daughter of Dansili advances her record to five wins, four seconds, and two thirds from 17 starts while banking $1,364,319.

Promise Of Success (GB) is the best of two winners from as many to race out of the Street Cry (IRE) mare Summer School, a daughter of the Listed Newbury Fillies' Trial winner Measured Tempo (Sadler’s Wells), a half-sister to Group 1 Prix du Jockey Club winner Anabaa Blue.

Measured Tempo’s dam Allez Les Trois (Riverman) is a half-sister to Group 1 Two Thousand Guineas winner King’s Best and Group 1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winner Urban Sea, dam of Galileo, Sea The Stars, Black Sam Bellamy, and My Typhoon.

That was 27,000 guineas well spent.
