Aussie Bernardini Double in South Africa

Two Australian bred sons of former Darley shuttler Bernardini (USA) saluted at the Greyville meeting in South Africa on Sunday.

Di Mazzio as a yearlingTrained by Louis Goosen, four year-old gelding Di Mazzio scored his second win from five starts when claiming a long neck victory over 1200 metres.

A $240,000 Inglis Premier purchase from the Milburn Creek draft, Di Mazzio was bred by Makybe and is a half-brother by Bernardini to Group I winner Amicus and stakes-placed Il Cavallo.

He is the fourth winner from stakes-placed Gold Chant, a half-sister to Champion Sprinter and successful sire Starspangledbanner from the family of champions Elvstroem and Haradasun.

Making a winning debut over 1600 metres was three year-old gelding Sir Bernadini, who scored a half length win for the Dennis Bosch stable.

A $52,500 Inglis Premier purchase for World Wide Bloodstock from the Bowness Stud draft, Sir Bernadini is the second winner from Commands mare Redesign, a daughter of Group I winner Inaflury.
