So You Think He’s Met His Perfect Match!

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday July 6

Coming to the end of his best ever season on the racetrack having sired the winners of over $18.6million, So You Think has been phenomenally popular with broodmare owners for the past four seasons covering 200 plus mares in each of those years, so let’s take a look at his 2021 book.

So You Think is a long way removed from the typical Australian speed sire profile in terms of pedigree, performance and physique, yet breeders have really embraced him as the years have gone by.

So You Think, click for more information.

He throws a very distinctive type and many of his stock have a good turn of foot making then effective over a wide range of distances with his 12 Australian stakes-winners this season successful at distances from 1200 to 3200m!

So You Think has had a slight fee increase this year rising from $77,000 to $93,500.

When you scan the list of mares covered by him last spring, champion mare More Joyous jumps straight out at you and I won’t be the only person busting to see what this baby turns out like!

Since retiring to stud in 2013, More Joyous has produced two foals to Frankel, and in between those matings produced three foals by Snitzel and Fastnet Rock.

The four foals of racing age have all won headed by Group II placed Snitzel filly Joyous Legend, but More Joyous is yet to produce anything with a fraction of the ability that saw her win 21 races, eight of them at Group I level.

Interestingly, So You Think was not the first pick for More Joyous last spring, as she was covered initially by Capitalist, but missed resulting in a consolation visit to So You Think, who was probably pleased to see her.

Uh oh, More Joyous just couldn't go with So You Think that day and neither could anyone else - image Racing Photos.

He stalked her without mercy in the 2010 Cox Plate, when she bravely tried to lead all the way… it was mission impossible, but she gave her all before caving in to finish fifth, while he forged clear to win.

I was at the Valley that day and you never forget a race like that, so the curiosity is killing me to see just what these two superstars can produce!
