Cambridge Stud Report Strong Early Support for Sword of State

Media Release - Wednesday July 6

Cambridge Stud have been buoyed by the early interest in their freshman sire Sword Of State ahead of the coming breeding season.

Sword of State is a new addition for Cambridge Stud this spring.

“It (interest) has been very good,” Cambridge Stud chief executive Henry Plumptre told Bensley.

“We are very lucky that we have got some good shareholders in our two horses we have brought in from Europe – Hello Youmzain and Almanzor. A lot of them have taken a share in Sword Of State.

“There is quite a bit of Australian interest in the horse, which is fantastic. We have got three Australian shareholders that have taken a share in the horse and will be sending mares over.

“He is a hard horse not to like. He is a son of Snitzel, he was the fourth highest rated two-year-old of his year across Australasia, he is a beautiful type, and he has got a great temperament.

“We will be supporting him strongly - we will be sending 35 mares to him.”

Sword Of State won 6 of his 11 starts for trainer Jamie Richards, including the Gr.1 Sistema Stakes (1200m) and Gr.3 Waikato Slipper (1200m) on his way to being crowned Champion New Zealand Two-Year-Old.

Sword Of State will stand at Cambridge Stud this coming breeding season for a fee of $15,000+GST.
