Juvenile Trial Watch – Warwick Farm

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday July 6

The barrier trials originally scheduled for Monday at Warwick Farm finally got run this morning following rain delay and there were seven 2YO heat winners on the polytrack including the half-sister to Group I Blue Diamond winner Tagaloa.

A $900,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the Arrowfield draft for Badgers Bloodstock / Glentree Thoroughbreds, Not a Single Doubt filly Lomandra was the most expensive filly by her sire sold in 2021.

Given to Team Hawkes, the half-sister to Tagaloa was third in her only previous trial back in January and was having her first public outing since then in this 740m heat.

Lomandra finished off well under a hold to score a head win over Snitcat, who although not a winner, contested plenty of smart 2YO races over the summer and was third in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic.

$900,000 Inglis Easter purchase Lomandra was the highest priced NASD filly sold in 2021.

Both fillies will be headed to the Black Book and should be able to cast off maiden status before the season ends.

Russian Revolution has had a swag of unraced 2YO’s trialling over the past month so expect more winners from him before the end of the season and one of those trial winners to watch is the Gary Portelli trained filly Inessa.

She was having her first trial this morning and fended off a trio of experienced Godolphin fillies headed by Magic Carpet to win her heat by three-quarters of a length.

Inessa showed good pace from the gates, did everything right and was up there all the way, so plenty of positives to take from today for a filly that can only be called a saleyard gift.

Bred by Kingstar Farm and sold as a weanling for $20,000, Inessa was re-offered by Leneva Park at Inglis Premier where she made just $35,000 when bought by Gold Edge Syndications making her the cheapest yearling by her sire at that sale.

Inessa was a modest $35,000 Inglis Premier purchase.

Inessa is from stakes-winning import Shakeira (USA), whose first two foals to race are both winners and looking at this trial, Inessa could easily bring up the hat-trick.

Other heat winners were: Parsonage Lane (Redoute’s Choice), Aft Cabin (Astern), Renosu (Exceed and Excel), Kiss the Outcast (Pariah) and Vaderzan (Invader).
