Goodbye My Friend

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday June 22

An early morning phone call from the NSW Mounted Police on Wednesday brought sad news to Daybreak Farm with our lovely Lenny tragically no longer with us.

Lenny enjoying the grass at Centennial Park.

Just shy of his 13th birthday, Lenny suffered a bout of colic over the weekend, which was not unusual in itself, but this one failed to resolve and led to surgery which was successful, but a post operative complication resulted in his being put to sleep.

We thank NSW Mounted Police for all their excellent care and love for Lenny in his time as Troop Horse Martin with particular thanks to Emma Dickens, Melinda Duncan and Danielle Culhana, who came to Daybreak Farm for his initial trial and backed him to succeed from day one.

Bred by Arrowfield Stud, Lenny was an expensive yearling bought by Duncan Ramage that achieved great success as Lunar Rise when trained by the late Bart Cummings and then enjoyed a career in showjumping at Daybreak Farm with myself and Jack and Jasmine before his transition to police work in 2020.

Lenny went into the NSW Mounted Police Unit in March 2020.

Lenny and his regular partner Emma Dickens were a familiar sight on patrol in the streets of Sydney and earned numerous trips to the country to places such as Tamworth and Byron Bay for adventures they thoroughly enjoyed.

Lenny participated in the spectacular NSW Police musical ride at Sydney Royal this year and had a pivotal cameo role in this year’s ANZAC Day parade.

Intelligent, brave and kind, he was a can do horse that always had your back and was beloved by all.

RIP my lovely Lenny.
