Undefeated Frankel Filly Crowned in G1 Coronation

Tara Madgwick - Friday June 17

An inspiring ride by Frankie Dettori on unbeaten Frankel filly Inspiral saw last season’s Champion 2YO Filly charge home from back in the field last night at Royal Ascot to win the Group I Coronation Stakes (1m) running away.

A homebred for Cheveley Park trained by John and Thady Gosden, she kept her record at a perfect five for five with this near five length demolition of a hot field of fillies at her first appearance this year.

“Sometimes with these fillies, in the spring, when the weather is cold, it's difficult for them. We didn't run in the English Guineas, Irish or French, but Inspiral has come to herself in the last couple of weeks and her last piece of work said she was back, but I didn't think she'd win like that to be honest,” said John Gosden.

“There was an element of relief at the furlong pole and element of surprise at the finish. I always like the jockey's first reaction so asked Frankie about the trip coming in and I think she could go a mile and a quarter - this is a stiff mile. There's the Nassau if we go further or the Jacques le Marois and other races at a mile.”

A half-sister to stakes-placed Celestran, Inspiral is the best of four winners from Group I placed Starscope, a half-sister by Selkirk to stakes-winner Solar Magic from the family of Group I winning miler Medicean.

Inspiral is the 21st stakes-winner for champion sire Frankel since the start of this year with two of those stakes-winners coming in Australia in Group winning fillies Argentia and My Whisper.
