Winner of the 2010 Melbourne Cup, quality European stayer Americain (USA) has been laid to rest after suffering a paddock accident that resulted in a broken leg.

Americain was purchased as a tried horse by Victorian bloodstock agent Rob Roulston on behalf of or an ownership group that consisted of prominent businessman Gerry Ryan, as well as Kevin and Colleen Bamford.

He achieved his goal of winning the Melbourne Cup and ultimately retired to stud in Victoria standing first at Swettenham Stud and then in later years at the Bamford’s property Daisy Hill.

A gorgeous looking horse, Americain did not achieve commercial success at stud, but left numerous winners including the Group III winner Eperdument and his stock are sought after as performance horses for their scope and style.

Americain has been laid to rest.
