One to Watch – Sandown - Frankel Blue Blood to Follow

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday June 15

John Camilleri’s Fairway Thoroughbreds have already tasted success with champion sire Frankel, who has given them high class Group winning 3YO filly Argentia and he is also the sire of their latest winner, who is from the 2013 Arqana Deauville Yearling Sale top lot.

Trained by Ciaron Maher and David Eustace, four year-old gelding Impulsar was having his first Australian start in the Benchmark 70 event over 1800m at Sandown on Wednesday following two starts last year in Ireland for Joseph O’Brien.

A winner at Dundalk on the all weather in October over 1m2 ½ f, he was sent to Australia not long after and has obviously settled in well to his new training regime.

A big strapping gelding, Impulsar took a while to hit top gear, but was determined to the line in winning by a long head under Harry Coffey.

“A big thanks to John Camilleri, who bred this horse and owns the mare, for entrusting us with him. It’s the perfect time of year for him to sift through the grades and capitalise,” said stable representative Jack Turnbull.

Winning rider Harry Coffey has plenty of time for Impulsar predicting there are more wins in store.

“He’s in the right stable, they have their stayers in immaculate condition,” said Coffey.

“David (Eustace) said on the phone this morning to give him plenty of room, ‘we just want to have a look at him and see what he’s made of’ … and he’s made of plenty, that was a really good win.

“He’ll improve off that and the further he goes the better. I think he’s a horse we can all follow from today.”

Propel was a showstopper at the 2013 Arqana Yearling Sale when she sold for 1.5million euros to James Harron Bloodstock.

Impulsar is the second foal and first winner for blue-blood Dubawi mare Propel, who was retired to stud unraced after being purchased by James Harron Bloodstock for 1.5million euros on behalf of Fairway Thoroughbreds to top the 2013 Arqana Deauville Yearling Sale.

By Dubawi from Hit the Sky, Propel is a half-sister to Group winners Royal Bench, Mayhem and Memphis Tennessee and her grand-dam is Group I winner Cerulean Sky, a three-quarter sister to Group I Irish Oaks winner Moonstone.

Propel has a 2YO colt by Dark Angel called Silver Legend to follow and a yearling colt by Gleneagles.
