Bright Future Tipped for Savabeel Filly

Media Release - Monday June 13

A bright future is being tipped for promising filly Po Kare Kare after her two-length win at Gosford last Thursday.

It was the second victory from four starts for the daughter of Savabeel, who has placed in her other two outings.

Trainer Bryce Heys was pleased with the win, but he is trying to keep his feet on the ground with his filly.

“We are happy to have her. She has always shown quite a bit of ability but had all sorts of issues from a behavioural standpoint for the first 12 or 14 months,” Heys told Bensley.

“It is a credit to her owners and their patience that let us get on top of that. She has only had four starts and has raced well.

“We haven’t got too carried away by the win the other day, but she did look pretty good in doing it.”

Heys said he has been pleased by all of her four outings.

“She was a little bit unlucky on debut and it was probably trainer error running her over 1200m first-up,” he said.

“Her second start was only a maiden at Canterbury but she was able to capitalise on the opportunity presented to her i.e. good jockey and good barrier. I thought she dominated the race.

“This time around she went to 1100m first-up and James (McDonald, jockey) said she slipped at the start and she was set an almighty task from there.

“She did really well and had a really hard run.

“She is a filly that appears a race brings her on, so I was definitely expecting her to go well on Thursday.

“She is still a work in progress. I am looking forward to the next couple of weeks.”

Heys said he is now eyeing Saturday racing with his filly over the next fortnight.

“Hopefully we will run her at Randwick on Saturday-week, or the following week at Rosehill, which will be dependent on how she does this week,” he said.

“We will probably give her one more run after that and then give her a bit of a let-up.”
