First Northern Hemisphere Winner for Zoustar

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday June 7

Widden Stud’s Zoustar has been shuttling to the Tweenhills Stud in the UK for the past few years and sired his first Northern Hemisphere bred winner overnight at Wetherby when Just Janet saluted.

Trained by David O’Meara, Just Janet was backed into favouritism for the five and a half furlong maiden after finishing third and fourth at her first two starts in April and May.

With the benefit of race experience and fitness, Just Janet pulled out plenty under pressure to score a length and a quarter win.

Just Janet was a 55,000 guinea purchase from Book 3 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale and is the first foal from Coral Sea, a winning Excelebration mare from Group III winner Tropical Paradise.

The winner for Zoustar was long overdue as he has also had five place-getters from his Northern Hemisphere bred 2YO’s that have raced, so expect to see more winners in coming weeks and months.

Zoustar has had a benchmark year in the sale ring producing Australia’s most expensive yearling and weanling sold in 2022.

His colt from Solar Charged topped Inglis Easter selling for $3million and his filly from Members Joy topped the Magic Millions National Weanling Sale selling for $750,000.

Zoustar stands at a fee of $198,000 this spring.
