Juvenile Trial Watch – Randwick

Tara Madgwick - Friday June 3

The Randwick trials were on the grass this morning and featured five 2YO heat winners highlighted by an eye-catching unraced colt by champion sire Snitzel with a stallion’s pedigree.

Trained by John O’Shea, Zoukerino has a prominent white blaze making the handsome chestnut an easy horse to spot.

He jumped fast from an outside gate and travelled wide all the way and responded well to the urgings of James McDonald to find the line and win his heat by the best part of a length.

Second at his first two trials back in January behind record priced Written Tycoon colt Pyrois and subsequent stakes-winner Rise of the Masses, Zoukerino has come back in top shape and could easily be that end of season 2YO that jumps out of the ground off season and then progresses straight through to early spring stakes races.

Another flashy chestnut Snitzel colt In The Congo did a very similar thing last year and won the Group I ATC Golden Rose.

A $500,000 Magic Millions National Yearling Sale purchase from the Milburn Creek draft for Suman Hedge Bloodstock, Zoukerino topped the 2021 sale after being withdrawn from Inglis Easter and runs for a syndicate headed by Iskander Racing and Breeding.

Zoukerino topped the MM National Yearling Sale last year.

Bred by Milburn Creek, who retain a share in his ownership, Zoukerino is a full brother to Group III placed Spend and his stakes-winning dam Walk with Attitude has had three foals to race all winners with this colt likely to keep her record perfect.

Milburn Creek sold an I Am Invincible filly from Walk With Attitude for $800,000 at Magic Millions this year to Ciaron Maher Bloodstock/Suman Hedge Bloodstock.

Zoukerino comes with a stallion’s pedigree tracing to influential matriarch Eljazzi, whose descendants include champion sires Invincible Spirit and Kodiac, as well as Champion 2YO and promising young shuttle sire Pinatubo (IRE) and Australian dual Group I winning 2YO and sire Pride of Dubai.

Other heat winners were: Encroachment (No Nay Never (USA), Spirit of Vomo (Spirit oof Boom), Passeggiata (Winning Rupert) and Golden Passport (Sebring).
