G1 Pedigrees Adelaide – See Them All in One Place

Tara Madgwick - Monday May 23

There are just four Group I races run in South Australia each year and they are finished for 2022 with the running of the SAJC Goodwood Handicap, so let’s take a look at the pedigrees of those winners.

The Group I SAJC Goodwood Handicap (1200m) was the last of the Adelaide G1 races and victory delivered a new Group I winner for champion sire I Am invincible with Lombardo taking the win, read about him here.

Lombardo is the 13th Group I winner for I Am Invincible and is the 18th for Encosta de Lago as a broodmare sire.

He is the sixth SW by I Am Invincible from a daughter of Encosta de Lago and is the first G1 winner for the cross. It runs at 16% SW to runner and 75% winner to runner.

The Group I SA Derby (2500m) was won by Kiwi bred Jungle Magnate, who credited his sire Victoria Derby winning sire Tarzino with his first Group I winner from his first crop of foals to race. Sadly it might be the last we see of him with media reports indicating he has been sold to Hong Kong.

He is the second Group I winner for Casino Prince as a broodmare sire joining two time Group I winner Shadow Hero and comes from a South American female family with his grand-dam Loving New the Champion 3YO Filly of Brazil for 2004/2005.

The Group I Australasian Oaks (2000m) was won by Japanese bred Glint of Hope (Jpn), who has a pedigree that screams Oaks filly and possibly Melbourne Cup contender come the spring..

She is the 56th Group I winner for the late Japanese super sire Deep Impact and the fifth for champion sire Fastnet Rock as a broodmare sire.

Her mother is a half-sister to Group I Royal Ascot Gold Cup winner Colour Vision and her grand-dam is a Group III winner by German staying sire Monsun, so not hard to see Glint of Hope achieving a lot more as she matures.

The Group I SAJC Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) for the mares was won by Snapdancer, who beat two outstanding mares in Away Game and September Run.

She became the 12th Group I winner for globe-trotting Royal Ascot legend Choisir and is his fourth stakes-winner bred from a daughter of Galileo. That nick has had 10 winners from 14 runners with the SW to runner strike rate 28%.

It has worked in the reverse with success, Galileo siring seven winners from eight runners from Choisir mares including two stakes-winners highlighted by his four time Group I winning filly Winter.
