More Stakes Success for Flying Crazy

Tara Madgwick - Saturday May 14

Another stakes-winner raised and sold by Newgate Farm, three year-old Flying Artie gelding Flying Crazy proved too good for older rivals at Scone on Saturday scoring an exciting win in the $140,000 Listed Luskin Star Stakes (1300m).

A last start winner of the Listed BRC Daybreak Lover Stakes at Eagle Farm, the Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou trained gelding was race fit and ready to fire at Scone under a light weight and charged to the line for Kerrin McEvoy to win by half a length.

Flying Crazy is going places fast with three stakes wins from his past four starts.

“Flying Crazy is going the right way and he will go to the Fred Best Classic in a fortnight and we will play it by ear after that,’’ Gerald Ryan said.

“If he won the Fred Best we would go to the Stradbroke, otherwise we would try him at a mile in the Gunsynd on the same day.

“But he is going to have no weight in a Stradbroke if he gets a start. He beat a good field and he is a highly promising horse.”

A $40,000 Inglis Classic purchase from the Newgate Farm draft for WBF Thoroughbreds / Equi-Com Syndications, Flying Crazy was bred by SF Bloodstock in partnership and foaled and raised at Newgate Farm.

He has the progressive record of five wins and two placings from 11 starts with prizemoney in excess of $311,000.

Flying Crazy is the first winner for Forever Crazy, a winning Encosta de Lago half-sister to the dams of Group II winner Hawkshot and stakes-winner Power Scheme.

Forever Crazy comes from the family of Group I winners Shindig and Shinzig and her two year-old colt by Russian Revolution was also bought by Equi-Com Syndications for $80,000 last year at Inglis Easter.

Forever Crazy is the third stakes-winner for Flying Artie, who covered his biggest ever book of 201 mares last spring at a fee of $33,000 and looks great value at $22,000 this year.
