One to Watch – Scone

Tara Madgwick - Friday May 13

Annabel Neasham has had a great run with her 2YO’s this season and it continued at Scone on Friday when she produced a Capitalist colt that was good enough to break his maiden against older rivals.

An unlucky second at Muswellbrook last month, Economics was sent out favourite for the 1000m maiden despite jumping from an outside gate.

Under a good ride from James McDonald, he was able to work forward and race on the pace before forging clear to win by the best part of a length.

A $260,000 Magic Millions National Yearling Sale purchase from the Lustre Lodge draft for Tony Fung Investments, he runs in the Aquis colours and looks to have more wins in store.

Economics as a yearling.

Bred by Australian Bloodstock, Economics is a half-brother to stakes-placed Wolf Moon and is the second winner from Group III placed Anabaa’s Legacy, who comes from the family of Group I winner Ball Park.

Economics is the tenth 2YO winner this season for Capitalist, who stands this spring at a fee of $99,000.
