Widden Stud to Welcome Dirty Work and Overshare

Media Release - Wednesday May 11

The sale of Spendthrift Australia has led to their promising young sires Dirty Work and Overshare joining the stellar Widden Stud roster in Victoria this spring.

“They are young exciting Group winning sons of champion sires that fit our profile for success and we look forward to adding them to our team this spring,” said Antony Thompson.

“Dirty Work was an expensive Inglis Easter purchase for Spendthrift that showed Group I talent to match his good looks and he was well received by breeders last spring covering 155 mares in his first year at stud.

“Overshare already has two year-olds and has been quick to makes his mark with his first three runners all placed in good company and showing above average ability headed by multiple Group II placed metro winner Lady Laguna, who has won over $250,000 for the Annabel Neasham stable.”

Dirty Work (Written Tycoon) will stand at $16,500 incl GST.

Dirty Work
A brilliant winner of the Group II MRC Schillaci Stakes (1100m) and third in the Group I MVRC Manikato Stakes (1200m), Dirty Work contested Group I sprints in his last five starts before retiring to stud and finished in the top end of the field in all bar one of those elite sprints amassing prizemoney in excess of $600,000.

“Reigning champion sire Written Tycoon is establishing an important sireline for Australia and we are already invested in that success with his Blue Diamond winning son Written By standing at our farm in NSW,” Thompson said.

“Everything we have seen so far from Written By has us optimistic for the future, so we jumped at the opportunity to stand another of his sons and we look forward to seeing the first Dirty Work foals this spring.”

Overshare (I Am Invincible) will stand at $11,000 incl GST

Overshare
True to the I Am Invincible type, Group III winning sprinter Overshare has over delivered in his short stud career to date covering 130 plus books of mares in his second, third and fourth seasons after an initial season covering 80 mares.

“Breeders recognize a sire that is consistently producing type and the numbers tell the story for Overshare,” said Thompson.

“He has made a very promising start and with the benefit of those large follow up books to come is well positioned to build momentum as his career unfolds.”

Overshare had his second crop of yearlings sell this year for up to $210,000 with Star Thoroughbreds and Randwick Bloodstock securing his top selling colt from Sense of Pride that will be trained by Chris Waller, while Annabel Neasham bought his top selling filly from Royal Chalee at Inglis Classic for $110,000.
