Lyndhurst Stud Announce Fees

Media Release - Sunday May 8

In a long and storied history as one of Queensland’s leading thoroughbred farms, Lyndhurst Stud will present its most exciting stallion lineup in 2022.

Lyndhurst fields a 5-strong roster for the coming spring including Champion Sire, Better Than Ready and exciting newcomer, Barbaric.

Better Than Ready

A winner-getter from the word go (Champion First Season Sire by Winners), Better Than Ready has produced an incredible 170+ winners from just four crops of racing age! Indeed, his 23 individual first crop winners was the best strike rate since Without Fear in 1975, while the 40 2YO winners from his first two crops is greater than any active sire has achieved.

Claiming over $18 million in progeny earnings, Better Than Ready is currently the leading Australian Sire of 2YOs by winners and sits in the top 30 of the national General Sires’ list.

With six stakes winners and a host of city winners on board, Better Than Ready’s current stars include Apache Chase, Alpine Edge, Tiger Legend, Coco Rox and Steady Ready.

Not surprisingly, broodmare owner and buyer interest in Better Than Ready has grown markedly over the last couple of seasons with his current crop of yearlings averaging $145,000 at the Gold Coast Magic Millions in January and selling up to $320,000. The rising 2YOs have found new homes with Annabel Neasham, Ciaron Maher and David Eustace, Peter Moody, Chris Waller and John Foote to name just a few.

Lyndhurst Stud is confident that the best is yet to come for Better Than Ready: “He is an incredible source of speed and frankly he’s done it off the back of a $9,900 service fee,” Lyndhurst’s Jeff Kruger points out. “As a consequence of what his progeny are doing on the track, the quality of mares covered has improved considerably. Watch this space.”

With a generational reputation for ‘launching’ new stallions, Lyndhurst welcomes I Am Invincible’s Group winning 2YO, Barbaric, to its lineup in 2022.

Barbaric

A $900,000 yearling purchase by China Horse Club, Newgate Farm and WinStar, Barbaric was trained by the Snowdens and would easily capture his second start at Randwick’s Kensington track before going on to annex the Group 3 Black Opal Stakes.

“Barbaric is an outstanding type as his $900,000 yearling price would obviously suggest,” Kruger adds. “Apart from being a Group winning juvenile, he’s by arguably the hottest stallion in Australia in I Am Invincible (75 stakes winners) who is rapidly emerging as a sire-of-sires, while the family will have wide appeal, particularly here in Queensland.

“Barbaric’s dam, Mimi Lebrock was a Group 2 winner in Victoria and multiple Group 1 placed, but she also won the Magic Millions 2YO Classic, while her half sister, Heavenly Thought won a Group race in Brisbane and finished second in the Group 1 Queensland Derby. We’re very excited to be standing Barbaric.”

Rounding out the Lyndhurst Stud roster is the tried and true trio of Rothesay, Hidden Dragon and Champions Gallery.

With over 250 winners including the much loved Group 1 hero, Rothfire, Rothesay remains a constant source of speedy performers, Hidden Dragon maintains a winners to runners strike rate of close to 70% (410 winners of $28 million) and the well related Champions Gallery is great value for a horse who has sired the likes of Kalik (5-time winner of over $250k), Meet and Greet, The Wildman, Treasure Gallery and this month’s Hong Kong winner Lucky Victor.

2022 Lyndhurst Stud fees:

BETTER THAN READY - $24,200

BARBARIC - $8,800

ROTHESAY - $4,950

HIDDEN DRAGON - $3,300

CHAMPIONS GALLERY - $1,100
