Sebring Winners Salute

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday May 4

Star Thoroughbreds have had a lot of success over the years, but no horse has eclipsed the deeds of Golden Slipper winning sire Sebring, who gave them a promising debut winner at Canterbury on Wednesday while another well-bred Sebring winner will now go to the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale as a winner for Emirates Park.

Trained by Chris Waller, two year-old filly Amati has had a good grounding at the trials and looked bright and well in the parade selected by Chantelle Buckley as her ‘pick of the yard’.

Amati was still a little green but showed a nice turn of foot to skip clear after turning for home and then held off a late challenge from Pierossa to win the 1200m fillies maiden by a nose.

“She’s a promising filly that will take a lot of experience from this,” said Chris Waller.

“She’s a filly with a bright future.”

Amati as a yearling, bred and sold by Corumbene Stud.

Bred and sold by Corumbene Stud, as was her sire Sebring, Amati was a $210,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Star Thoroughbreds / Randwick Bloodstock Agency and is the third winner from Cloak of Night, a winning Lonhro sister to stakes-placed Beatitude.

Sebring made it a race to race double with Emirates Park homebred three year-old filly Marooniyah breaking the ice in the 1250m maiden.

The Team Hawkes trained filly is a half-sister to stakes-winner Ebhaar and Group III placed Shotmaker being the fourth winner from Maroon Bay, a  three-quarter sister by Exceed and Excel to Group I winner Merchant Navy, Group II winner Jolie Bay and stakes-winner Setanta.

Marooniyah has been entered by Emirates Park for the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale as Lot 681, so will go to the Gold Coast as a winner.
