Surprise Result in G1 Newmarket 1000 Guineas

Tara Madgwick - Sunday May 1

The Group I Newmarket 1000 Guineas (1m) was run overnight with victory going to progressive filly Cachet, who like Newmarket 2,000 Guineas winner Coroebus, is from a daughter of Teofilo.

Trained by George Boughey, Cachet had a busy 2YO season racing eight times for a win and multiple Group placings, but has soared to a new level this year.

The daughter of Aclaim won the Group III Newmarket Nell Gwyn Stakes at her seasonal return and backed up from that to score a neck win under James Doyle over Prosperous Voyage (Zoffany) with Tuesday (Galileo) in third place.

Cachet runs for Highclere Thoroughbred Racing and was purchased from the Tattersalls Craven Breeze Up Sale last year for 60,000 guineas.

She is the first Group I winner for her sire Aclaim, who stands at the National Stud for 6,000 pounds with his oldest progeny just 3YO's. A Group I winning sprinter miler by Accalamation, he had a whopping 29 first crop winners last year with Cachet the best of them.

She is the first winner for her dam Poyle Sophie, a placed half-sister to the dam of Group III winner Whisper Not.

She is the 34th Group I winner worldwide to carry a double cross of Danehill, the list boosted significantly this year thanks to Australia Group I winning fillies Fireburn, She’s Extreme and Hinged.
