Another Boom 2YO Winner

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday April 20

Spirit of Boom has a cracking crop of two year-olds conceived when his service fee rose from $11,000 to $55,000 in 2018 and we saw another of them salute at Canterbury on Wednesday with Sweet Baby Boom scoring as favourite.

Trained by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, Sweet Baby Boom beat subsequent Group I winner She’s Extreme in her first barrier trial back in February before finishing third at her first two starts at Canterbury in good company.

Sent out favourite at her third attempt, she again had to deal with a heavy track, but the previous practice runs were put to good use.

Sweet Baby Boom tracked the leaders for Tim Clark and surged clear at the finish to won the 1200m fillies race by three-quarters of a length.

“She’ll learn a lot from that and go forward in the right way,” said Adrian Bott.

“I can’t wait to see her on top of the ground and I expect to see a lot more of her in the spring.”

Sweet Baby Boom was bred and sold by Rosemont Stud.

A $360,000 Magic millions purchase from the Rosemont Stud draft for her trainers, Sweet Baby Boom is the third winner from former  slick 2YO stakes-winner Sugar Babe, an Exceed and Excel daughter of Group II ATC Surround stakes winner On Type, who was trained by Gai Waterhouse.

Sweet Baby Boom is bred on an explosive nick between Spirit of Boom and daughters of Exceed and Excel that has so far achieved 100% success producing six winners from six runners headed by stakes-winners Ef Troop and this season’s juvenile stakes-winner Get in the Spirit.

Sweet Baby Boom is the 11th 2YO winner this season for Eureka Stud’s Spirit of Boom, who recently posted his 100th Australian winner of the season.
