Tom Magnier Buys Sunlight Brother for $3million

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday April 6

The current crop of stellar yearlings by Zoustar are those conceived at a fee of $154,000 following the emergence of his champion filly Sunlight, so it only seems fitting that he would smash it right out of the park at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale on Wednesday when the full brother to Sunlight sold for $3million.

Bred in partnership by Widden Stud, the much admired colt was purchased by Tom Magnier, who paid $4.2million for Sunlight as a broodmare prospect at the 2020 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale.

Sunlight produced a colt by Justify (USA) last spring and is now in foal to Wootton Bassett (GB), so Coolmore already have a considerable investment in this progressive family.

Sunlight was an exceptional filly that won the Magic Millions 2YO Classic and placed in the Golden Slipper before returning at three to win the Group I VRC Newmarket Handicap, Coolmore Stud Stakes and MVRC William Reid Stakes to be crowned Champion 3YO Filly.

At the time she was racing, it was often lamented that Sunlight was not a colt, but in this $3million youngster we might actually have that much coveted male version of a superstar.

A Group III winning daughter of Charge Forward, Solar Charged is also the dam of Group III winner Sisstar, Group III placed Sheikha and stakes-placed Dio, producing five winners from her seven foals to race.

Solar Charged is married to Zoustar and has a filly follow and is back in foal to him again.
