$1.1million for 2YO Justify Colt at Fasig-Tipton Gulfstream Sale

Tara Madgwick - Thursday March 31

The first crop of Northern Hemisphere bred foals by Coolmore shuttler Justify (USA) are 2YO’s this year and already they are making an impression under saddle with a colt by the undefeated Triple Crown winner selling for $1.1million at Fasig-Tipton Gulfstream 2YO’s in Training Sale.

$1.1million Justify colt from Appealing Zophie

The most expensive colt offered on Wednesday, he was consigned by Wavertree Stables and bought on behalf of Coolmore by Jamie McCalmont.

He breezed last week in :10 seconds for his final furlong as one of the fastest of the sale and is out of the Group I winning juvenile Appealing Zophie.

A proven stakes producer, Appealing Zophie has left Group I winner Tapwrit, Group II winner Ride a Comet and stakes-winner Inject.

“We have seen a lot of Justifys,” Jamie McCalmont told TDN.

“The word seems to be getting very strong on them. This one looks like more of a precocious type than some of them look, so you'd hope he'd be running in the summer.

“I have watched him train here for the last week and he hasn't put a hair wrong. He stood up to the sale well and we wanted to buy the horse.

“He jumped two shadows and still managed to go :10 flat and stay on his feet. That shows a lot of athleticism.”

Justify will make his presence felt at Inglis Easter.
