Media Release - Tuesday March 29

A new Easter graduate stakeswinner just before the Inglis Easter Sale is always a perfectly timed result, and this year Williamsburg delivered it for Arrowfield.

The 2YO son of Snitzel proved too strong on a very testing track at Rosehill in the $160,000 The Schweppervescence 1400m G3.

A $470,000 Inglis Easter purchase by Tony Fung Investments, Williamsburg is the 10th Arrowfield graduate to win at Group or Listed level this season.

And the 23rd stakeswinner Arrowfield has sent through the Inglis Easter ring since 2015.

He’s also the 120th stakeswinner – and 16th this season – for Champion Sire Snitzel who has 10 colts and six fillies in Arrowfield’s Inglis Easter 2022 draft.

The full sister to Williamsburg is Lot 166.

One of those yearlings, Lot 166, is Williamsburg’s full sister, out of Fenway (by High Chaparral), who won the Vinery Stud S. G1 at the same meeting almost exactly seven  years ago.

Williamsburg’s jockey Kerrin McEvoy could not recall more difficult conditions and said, “Full credit to my horse…He was not loving it, but his ability got him through it and he tried hard all the way to the line. He is a lovely horse for the future.”

Trainer Gerald Ryan, who also prepared Snitzel, celebrated his 14th stakeswinner by the Champion Sire, and the first in partnership with Sterling Alexiou.

Another Arrowfield graduate Matcha Latte (Maurice-Wayward), a $150,000 buy for Viribright Racing from Inglis Classic, was third in the race. He is Maurice’s 9th Australian stakes performer.
